Street photography in Portland and around the world seeks to capture images of everyday life that have a transcendent quality. As expressed by the original master of the art, Henri Cartier-Bresson, it demands of the photographer to be “halfway between a pickpocket and a tightrope walker” by exercising both boldness and sensitivity. In my own work, I try to shoot unobtrusively and intuitively, to keep a fresh eye and remain alert to surprises as well as images that take time to compose carefully. For me, it is also a good excuse to wander around the city I have lived in or near for half my life.
